Wakespeed WS500 Advanced Alternator Regulator

We don't pretend to know more than others about controlling alternators to charge batteries and we don't put our badges onto an OEM's product, or modify the PC/Android/Apple App to replace the OEM's logos to our logo, and imply that we somehow have our know-how and intellectual property in the products. We say things like they should be said: Wakespeed have the experience and are the experts in the field so all the know-how and intellectual property in the Wakespeed products are there's.

The WS500, besides managing the alternator so that it operates within its limits of the engine capability, alternator load vs rotational speed, the key thing done by the WS for battery care is controlling not only the voltage, but also the current into the battery. This is particularly important for charging lithium batteries when the cell voltage rises above the "knee voltage" as voltage runaway, ie voltage rises rapidly, will occur if one cell has a higher state of charge than the others. The REC BMS in conjunction with the WS500 (& Victron GX controlled "Victron system" if also installed) limits the charge current into the battery during balancing and topping off the battery to 100%. As stated in the Wakespeed flyer for the WS500 states, "...using current as well as voltage to regulate charging has always been the holy grail for intelligent battery care."
